Chiropractic Research Brief · September 28, 2026
A review of ten observational studies examined whether vascular events involving the head or neck occurred more often after chiropractic spinal adjustment. At one and seven days the findings did not meet the review’s prespecified threshold for statistical significance. A 30-day analysis found an association, but the certainty was very low.
What this means for patients
Early symptoms of a vascular problem can themselves lead someone to seek neck care. These studies could not reliably separate that explanation from harm due to treatment. They cannot establish zero risk or a precise risk for an individual. A useful clinical conversation covers the symptom history, reasons for medical evaluation, and alternatives such as gentler mobilization.
A question to bring to your next visit
Does the timing or character of this headache or neck pain change what should happen first?
