Neuropathy Research Brief · September 4, 2026
Researchers found that psilocybin given before certain chemotherapy drugs protected sensory nerves in mice. Human tissues helped the team investigate how that might work, but no patient in this study received the treatment. It is not a basis for self-treatment or for changing cancer care.
What this means for patients
A separate follow-up study found that some cancer survivors reported less bothersome neuropathy after using ear acupressure. The later follow-up had no untreated comparison group and many participants did not complete it, so the study could not establish lasting benefit. Neither paper proves recovery of damaged nerves in patients.

Was this treatment tested in people, and did researchers measure symptoms, nerve damage, or both?
