Neuropathy Research Brief · October 16, 2026

A small sham-controlled trial found a symptom benefit with a particular dual-wavelength laser in painful diabetic neuropathy. The manufacturer funded the work, follow-up was short, and independent confirmation matters. It does not show that every red-light or Class IV laser has the same effect.

What this means for patients

A second trial found improvements in arm function and nerve-conduction measurements after laser or shockwave plus exercise for a compressed ulnar nerve after burns. That is a different condition from widespread diabetic neuropathy. Better conduction is not proof of new nerve growth. A review of small-fiber neuropathy also highlights why an ordinary nerve-conduction test can be normal despite burning symptoms.
