Neuropathy Research Brief · October 30, 2026

Someone can lose protective feeling in the feet without noticing pain. An expert consensus recommends checking several kinds of sensation rather than relying on symptoms alone. The guidance was developed in Malaysia with industry support. Separately, an exercise trial in chemotherapy neuropathy found gains in strength or reported symptoms without clear improvement in the ability to feel vibration.

What this means for patients

A small trial of N-acetylcysteine during oxaliplatin chemotherapy reported less early neuropathy. It was short, involved 46 people, and did not demonstrate repair of established nerve injury. Discuss supplements with the oncology team before using them during chemotherapy. A different small trial found no clear pain benefit from acetaminophen for chronic postsurgical nerve pain; that result is specific to the patients studied.
